PERFORMANCE
The 488 Pista uses a 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 720 CV and 770 Nm, making it significantly more powerful and lighter than the standard 488 GTB. Ferrari reduced weight to 1,280 kg dry and incorporated technology developed through the 488 GTE and Challenge racing programmes. The Pista reaches 100 km/h in 2.85 seconds and 200 km/h in 7.6 seconds. Carbon-ceramic brakes, Side Slip Control 6.0 and Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer help the driver use that performance without making the car difficult to understand.
dESIGN
Most of the visual differences between the Pista and the 488 GTB serve an aerodynamic purpose. The S-Duct in the front bonnet increases front downforce, while the larger rear diffuser and revised underbody manage airflow beneath the car. Carbon fibre is used extensively for the body and interior components to reduce weight. Inside, carpets are replaced by aluminium floor panels, while Alcantara, exposed carbon fibre and lightweight seats give the cabin a much more focused character.
OUR TAKE
The Ferrari 488 Pista is one of the most interesting V8 models Ferrari has produced. It takes the already impressive 488 GTB and improves almost every aspect of its performance. The engine produces 720 CV, the car weighs 90 kg less, and the aerodynamics generate significantly more downforce.
What makes the Pista particularly enjoyable is how Ferrari has managed to make such a powerful car accessible to its driver. The steering is quick, the gearbox responds immediately, and the electronic differential works with Side Slip Control to help manage traction when accelerating out of corners.
The details also tell an interesting story. The S-Duct in the bonnet, carbon fibre body panels and aluminium interior flooring are all there for a reason. Ferrari developed the Pista using knowledge gained from its racing programmes, and that influence is visible throughout the car.
For us, the 488 Pista deserves its place alongside the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale. Each represents a different generation of Ferrari's mid-engined V8, and the Pista shows just how far Ferrari took the twin-turbocharged formula before moving towards hybrid technology.
