PERFORMANCE

The Aventador SVJ uses Lamborghini’s 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12, producing 770 CV and 720 Nm. Power goes to all four wheels through the 7-speed ISR transmission, taking the SVJ from 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. Rear-wheel steering improves agility, while the ALA 2.0 active aerodynamic system adjusts airflow around the car depending on speed, braking and cornering. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard, and extensive use of carbon fibre helps reduce weight compared with the Aventador S.

dESIGN

The SVJ looks aggressive because most of its exterior changes are functional. The front splitter, large side intakes, engine cover, rear diffuser and fixed carbon-fibre wing were developed around the ALA 2.0 aerodynamic system. Inside, carbon fibre and Alcantara replace many of the heavier materials found in the standard Aventador, while the digital instrument display and driving controls remain focused around the driver.

OUR TAKE

The Aventador SVJ takes everything that made the Aventador special and pushes it much further. The 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 produces 770 CV and revs to 8,700 rpm, with no turbochargers or hybrid system between the engine and the driver. The single-clutch ISR gearbox is not as smooth as a modern dual-clutch transmission, but its fast, physical gear changes are part of the SVJ experience.

The engineering is equally important. Lamborghini added rear-wheel steering, reworked the suspension and developed ALA 2.0, an active aerodynamic system that can manage airflow independently across the car during cornering. The result was enough for the SVJ to set a 6:44.97 Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time before production began.

Only 900 Aventador SVJ coupés were produced. For us, that combination of limited production, active aerodynamics and Lamborghini’s naturally aspirated V12 is what makes the SVJ one of the defining Aventadors.
