PERFORMANCE
The G 65 AMG Final Edition uses a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 producing 630 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. Power is sent through a seven-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive. The large torque output gives the G 65 strong acceleration despite its size and weight, while three locking differentials retain the off-road capability that has always defined the G-Class. It is a very unusual combination: an AMG V12 installed in one of Mercedes-Benz's most recognizable off-road platforms.
dESIGN
The Final Edition was created to mark the end of V12 production for this generation of G-Class. Limited to 65 units worldwide, it received specific bronze detailing, including 21-inch AMG wheels, exterior accents and matching elements inside the cabin. Carbon fibre, leather and AMG-specific trim separate it from a standard G-Class, while the traditional box-shaped body, exposed hinges and rear-mounted spare wheel remain unchanged.
OUR TAKE
The G 65 AMG Final Edition is interesting because Mercedes-Benz is unlikely to build anything quite like it again. A 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 producing 630 hp and 1,000 Nm inside a traditional G-Class is an unusual formula even by AMG standards. Only 65 Final Edition examples were produced worldwide. The bronze 21-inch wheels and exterior details identify the model immediately, while the cabin receives its own combination of leather, carbon fibre and bronze accents.
It still has the ladder-frame construction, permanent four-wheel drive and three locking differentials associated with the G-Class, but with the character of an AMG V12 under the bonnet. That combination of old-school G-Class engineering, a twelve-cylinder engine and extremely limited production is what makes the Final Edition particularly relevant for collectors.
